Improved my duck habitat.

Hello Jim ,

Thank you for recommending your water lilies to improve my beaver pond duck habitat.

I was looking for a supplement food source to improve duck habitat for hunting. I read all the information you sent me especially for a beaver pond with turtles .

The last week of February I found a suitable spot to plant the lilies in my pond that was knee deep and close to deeper water . I was unable to find construction webbing ( your recommendation) and used 5 ‘ metal livestock fence with two inch by three inch squares ( the least expensive fence at any Lowe’s or Home Depot) in 50 ‘ rolls .

I simply pushed four metal 6 ‘ fence posts into the muddy bottom of a twenty by twenty area then unrolled the fence and tied fence to post with aluminum ties . I did this while waiting on my lilies to arrive by ups delivery.

I received my lilies on time and transferred them to a cooler of pond water for transport to my hunting property.

I received about fifty plants with pads . Floated my cooler of plants out to my fenced area and with a small garden spade inserted into the mud placed one plant every three feet and filled up my area . I returned the next day to check for any plants that may floated out of the mud and would need to be replanted but all were still secure in their spot . On this day I also added 2x2 wood posts by pushing them into the mud along the fence between the metal posts to support fence . Also used a smaller diameter (1 inch holes ) fence over the bottom one foot of metal fence and folded the smaller fence out away from fence to stop turtles from digging their way under the metal fence.

The planting was done, now I returned each day for a week to check if any plants floated out of their spot .
No farm equipment, no fertilizer, no weeding required, no waiting to see if the seeds sprouted because plants were transferred to my pond already mature.

I sent photos to Jim about every thirty days to get his thoughts on how plants were doing. Within two months I had the yellow lilies emerged and producing seeds for all wildlife to eat. Now the lilies are doing all the work.

I found all aspects of planting to be easy and straight forward. Yes next year I will plant more .

Thank you, Chris
